OSU Baseball Players Have Productive Summer

The summer season ended for Oregon State players last week when Scott Schultz, Ben Wetzler, Ryan Gorton and Jace Fry claimed the WCL championship when Corvallis topped Walla Walla. The OSU baseball team is scheduled back to campus in September for the start of fall ball after a successful summer for many. Here is how the Beavers faired over the past three months:

Ryan Dunn: Played for the Bend Elks of the West Coast League. He played in 37 games, batting .259 with nine doubles, two home runs and 18 RBIs.

Luke Acosta: Played for the Wisconsin Rapids Rafters of the Northwoods League. He appeared in 27 games, batting .221 with one double and six RBI.

Ryan Barnes: Played for the Wenatchee AppleSox of the West Coast League. He appeared in 37 games, batting .336 with four doubles, 18 RBI and 19 walks.

Cole Baylis: Played for the Wenatchee AppleSox of the West Coast League. He appeared in eight games, including three starts, and went 1-0 with a 5.06 ERA in 16 innings, and struck out eight.

Matt Boyd: Played for the USA Baseball Collegiate National Team, appearing in five games He went 1-0 with a 1.42 ERA in 6 1/3 innings, tallying eight strikeouts. He later played for the Orleans Firebirds of the Cape Cod League, making eight appearances with two starts, a 0-0 record with a 1.71 ERA in 21 innings, striking out 15.

Tony Bryant: Played for the Madison Mallards of the Northwoods League He threw in 16 games this summer, going 2-0 with a 0.96 ERA. He racked up 18 2/3 innings and saved five games, allowing just seven hits, two runs and struck out 19.

Dan Child: Played for the La Crosse Loggers of the Northwoods League. He pitched in 18 games, ammassing 42 1/3 innings. He went 3-2 this summer with a 1.06 ERA and recorded five saves all while striking out 34. Child was also named to postseason All-Star Team.

Adam Duke: Played for the Corvallis Knights of the West Coast League. He pitched in two games, totaling five innings, and struck out two.

Jace Fry: Played for the Corvallis Knights of the West Coast League, and pitched in nine games, starting eight of those games. He finished the year 2-1 with a 1.41 ERA in 38 1/3 innings and struck out 33.

Max Gordon: Played for the Swift Current Indians of the Western Major Baseball League He played in 27 games, batting .313 with four doubles, a triple, one home run and 17 RBI.

Ryan Gorton: Played for the Corvallis Knights of the West Coast League. He appeared in 28 games, batting .301 with four doubles and 18 RBIs.

Danny Hayes: Played for the Brewster Whitecaps of the Cape Cod League. He played in 17 games, batting .262 with two doubles, one RBI and 11 walks.

Kavin Keyes: Played for the Anchorage Pilots of the Alaskan Summer League He appeared in 25 games, batting .288 with six doubles and 13 RBIs.

Garrett Nash: Played for the Wisconsin Rapids Rafters of the Northwoods League, and appeared in 49 games, batting .238 with nine doubles, two home runs and 11 RBI.

Jake Rodriguez: Played for the Falmouth Commodores of the Cape Cod League and played in 36 games He went .267 from the plate with seven doubles and 10 RBIs. He also played in the Cape Cod League All-Star Game at Fenway Park in Boston.

Scott Schultz: Played for the Corvallis Knights of the West Coast League. He pitched in 14 games, going 4-3 with a 3.54 ERA in 28 innings, striking out 29 and walking nine.

Tyler Smith: Played for the La Crosse Loggers of the Northwoods League. He appeared in 48 games, batting .299 with 11 doubles, three home runs and 38 RBI ... Walked 19 times.

Ben Wetzler: Played for the Corvallis Knights of the West Coast League. He pitched in 12 games, all in relief, going 0-0 with a 0.47 ERA. He allowed just one earned run in 19 innings while striking out 16. He also saved two games.

Tom Zarosinski: Played for the Ports of the West Coast League-Portland. He pitched in five games, going 1-1 with a 2.65 ERA in 17 innings, recording 12 strike outs.
